TJX Foundation Funds Programs for North Shore Victims of Sexual Abuse and Violence

Health & Education Services has received a $5,000 grant from the TJX Foundation to support the agency’s work with victims of domestic and sexual violence on the North Shore.

Specifically, the agency will use the funds for two purposes: (1) To increase their community outreach to reach more victims on the North Shore and (2) To create bilingual support groups, which play a crucial role in the healing process.   The agency’s programs that work with people around violence and trauma are located in Beverly and Lynn to serve adults, teens and children from across the North Shore area.

Last year, the staff served over 1,200 people on the North Shore whose lives have been impacted by sexual assault. The program also conducts prevention and educational groups in high and middle schools.

“These funds will enhance our services to women and children who have been victims of violence,” says Karen Tomkins, program director for the Victims of Crime and Loss program in Beverly.  Dinorah Mendez, who conducts groups at the North Shore Rape Crisis Center adds, “This Grant means we are now able to provide workshops and support groups to address the specific needs of Spanish-speaking survivors of sexual violence, so that they can connect with other survivors.”
