Crisis Readiness and Response

Promote Resilience

Preparation, Training, Defusing, Debriefing and Follow Up

The HES Crisis Readiness and Response Program supports three specialty teams of experienced clinicians:

All team members are trained in the Mitchell model for debriefing victims of a traumatic event or incident.

Members of both VOCAL teams have received national calls for support and responded in Oklahoma City in 1995, in Flint, Michigan in 1999 and in New York City in 2001.

A critical incident is: any significant emotional event that has the power, because of its own nature or circumstances, to cause unusual psychological distress in healthy, normal people.

Program Elements

  • On Site Preparedness Training

  • Individual, Family and/or Group Crisis Intervention

  • 4 Hour Emergency Access

  • On Site Response After a Traumatic Event

The Cost of Crisis to Your Business

The Grief Recovery Institute's 2003 Grief  Index concluded that grief costs American businesses over $75 billion each year:

  • death of a loved one - $37 + billion

  • divorce/marital woes = $11 billion

  • family crises = $9 billion

  • death of an acquaintance = $7 billion

  • money trouble at home = $4.6 billion

  • pet loss = $2.4 billion

In a recent report on Violence in the Workplace, the U.S. Department of Justice stated that workplace violence accounted for 18% of all violent crime from 1993-1999.

On the job..

  • 20 people are murdered each week

  • 18,000 people are assaulted each week

  • Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death

  • Homicide is the leading cause of death for women

The cost...$$$$

  • 500,000 employees assaulted in the workplace, lose 1,751,100 days of work each year; 3.5 days per crime

  • Missed work results in $55,000,000 in lost wages annually, not including covered sick days and annual leave
